Some information about the book:
The Inner City by Karen Heuler
Anything is possible: people breed dogs with humans to create a servant class; beneath one great city lies another city, running it surreptitiously; an employee finds that her hair has been stolen by someone intent on getting her job; strange fish fall from trees and birds talk too much; a boy tries to figure out what he can get when the Rapture leaves good stuff behind. Everything is familiar; everything is different. Behind it all, is there some strange kind of design or merely just the chance to adapt? In Karen Heuler’s stories, characters cope with the strange without thinking it’s strange, sometimes invested in what’s going on, sometimes trapped by it, but always finding their own way in.

Wow. Really cool cover! I thought at first the pic of the fish was a Ramirezi but the dorsal fin is unlike any Ramirezzi I've ever seen. Regardless, it's very striking and one of the better newer covers I've seen the last couple of yrs.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit of a heathen when it comes to fish, I'm afraid; I just figured it for some kind of goldfish. If you figure out what it is, let me know! :-) It's very pretty. Dmitry and I used to enjoy going through the fancy fish section of a local pet store when it was still open. We especially enjoyed the mollies, because they'd all come swarming up when they saw you, hoping for food. I had a girlfriend back in Minneapolis who had a salt-water aquarium set-up with puffer fish and such. She used to feed the puffers by hand - she said they were very friendly and affectionate.
