@Rhemalda @FianaL #Giveaway #Book #Feature "Indigo" by Fiauna Lund

INDIGO Synopsis:

When Brit Kavanagh was a baby her mother disappeared, but not before she gave her daughter wings—sewn into her skin with needle and thread.

Seventeen years later, Brit’s quiet, protected life is turned upside-down when her father dies, leaving her in the care of relatives she hardly knows. Almost from the moment she arrives in her new home, Brit is haunted by the terrifying apparition of a banshee and disaster strikes wherever she goes. From a near-drowning experience to a house fire at a crowded party, no one around her is safe.

Brit is desperate to unravel the mysteries behind her wings and the curse of the banshee before someone else gets hurt. The only person who can help her is Gentry O’Neill, a handsome lifeguard who knows more than he’s telling. With Gentry’s help, Brit must embark on a journey of discovery that will lead her through her mother’s troubled past, her father’s dark secrets, and the horrifying truth of her own existence.

ABOUT FIAUNA LUND:

Fiauna Lund is a grown woman with an overactive imagination, a passion for writing, four children, and the dirty house to prove it.

Reading and writing have always been passions for Fiauna. During her childhood she spent hours exploring the woods of rural western Pennsylvania where she first began creating stories about faeries, pixies, magic, and mystical creatures.

She met her husband, Aaron, while attending Utah State University, and later earned a degree in human services from Columbia College which allowed her to study the uniquely challenged and inspiring people who serve as her collective muse. She now resides in Farmington, Utah. When she's not reading, writing, or running, she spends her time caring for her four adorable children and one rambunctious dog.

@Rhemalda Publishing and J. Marie Croft Cover Reveal: "Love at First Slight"

Genre:
Fiction | Romance | Historical | Regency | Jane Austen Sequel

Publication Date:
October 1, 2013

“It may not be universally acknowledged, but the unvarnished truth is that a young widow in possession of a good fortune is not necessarily in want of another husband.”

In this humorous, topsy-turvy Pride & Prejudice variation, all the gender roles are reversed. It is Mr. Bennet’s greatest wish to see his five sons advantageously married. When the haughty Miss Elizabeth Darcy comes to Netherfield with the Widow Devonport nee Bingley, speculation—and prejudice—runs rampant.

William Bennet, a reluctant and irreverent future reverend, catches Miss Darcy’s eye even though he is beneath her station. However, his opinion of her was fixed when she slighted him at the Meryton Assembly. As her ardour grows, so does his disdain, and when she fully expects to receive an offer of marriage, he gives her something else entirely ….

About the Author:

J. Marie Croft, a Nova Scotia resident and avid reader all her life, discovered Jane Austen's works later than others but made up for lost time by devouring the six novels and as many adaptations and sequels as she could find. In the midst of reading prodigious amounts of Austen-based fan-fiction, she realized, "Hey, I can do that." In her spare time, when not working at a music school or on a wooded trail enjoying her geocaching hobby, she listens to the voices in her head and captures their thoughts and words in writing. Her stories are light-hearted; and her motto is Miss Austen's own quote, "Let other pens dwell on guilt and misery." J. Marie Croft is a member of the Jane Austen Society of North America (Canada) and admits to being "excessively attentive" to the 1995 BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. @Rhemalda @CasPeace 1 #Review: "King's Artesan": Book 3 of the Artesans of Albia trilogy by Cas Peace

Welcome to my stop on the King's Artesan blog tour!  I hope you have had a chance to follow along and take part in the giveaway. If you'd like to catch up to the previous stops (and today is the last), here is the post with the links to the other blogs and the Rafflecopter form for the giveaway.  I'm fairly sure the giveaway ends today, so hurry!  Before I leave my review, let me tell you a bit about the excellent author of these books, Cas Peace.  You can find links to her Facebook and website on the other post, so I'll just put up a short bio here.

As well as her love of horses, Cas is mad about dogs, especially Lurchers. She enjoys dog agility training
and currently owns two rescue Lurchers, Milly and Milo. Milly has already had some success in the agility ring, and Milo will begin competing in late 2011.

Cas loves country walks, working in stained glass and folk singing. She has also written a nonfiction book, "For the Love of Daisy," which tells the life story of her beautiful Dalmatian.

You are all seeing my review first (other than on Amazon), but not by much. As soon as I'm up and about later today I'll be posting this everywhere else.  In the meantime, here is my review of King's Artesan.

Author: Cas Peace
5 out of 5 stars

Please note: If you are reading this review on a site that does not allow formatting, please follow the link in my profile to my blog, Now is Gone, to view formatting and links.

Book Info: Genre:
Reading Level: Adult
Recommended for: Fans of the series, fans of epic fantasy
Book Available: Paperback was released August 15, 2013
Trigger Warnings: violence, murder, killing, treachery
Extra Stuff: Music to go with the book can be found at the author's website, linked here where permitted.

My Thoughts: What an ending to this first trilogy in the Artesans of Albia fantasy series! This is not the end, though, as additional books—a new trilogy—are planned, and therefore this book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I certainly hope that the next book will not be long in coming.

The author does a great job developing very complex characters. Things are not always as they seem, and many characters that start off hostile to our heroes end up being quite likeable when more is learned about them. However, the antagonistic characters are all really awful people. It's a sad reality that there are way too many greedy and power-hungry people in the world, whether that world is ours or a created world like Albia, and then you have the types who are so afraid of things they don't understand that they simply need to destroy everything. They are the ones I dislike most, because they are so full of their own sense of self-importance, and their rightness, that they can often be quite chilling.

This book had one scene that I was really confused about, and it was after Sonten's plans for the Staff were discovered. I can not understand why Robin did not immediately contact General Blaine about the situation rather than waiting an entire day until they returned to Albia. It would have saved everyone grief. Another thing that has really bothered me is how no one is willing to push the situation with Parren. He does many things that are fully deserving of punishment, yet no one is willing to speak up and do anything about him. He's a nasty sort, and I really wish they would so something about him; I can sense he is going to be a major source of trouble in the next trilogy.

I confess that starting at about the 50 percent mark I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. It didn't take long! There is a great deal of suspense in this book, and it really held my interest; I read it straight through. I have just loved this entire series. Cas Peace is a master storyteller, providing a depth and breadth of information about her worlds and their people that is just staggering. As I already mentioned ,her characters are complex and multi-dimensional, and I have very much enjoyed reading this series. I am also looking forward with great anticipation to her next novel in this series. I heartily recommend this series to anyone who enjoys epic fantasy, strong world-building, and beautiful storytelling. Highly recommended!

Series Information: Artesans of Albia trilogy

Book 2: King's Chamption review linked here
Book 3: King's Artesan full review to be posted August 22
Another series is planned, to be called Circle of Conspiracy. I have no additional information as to book titles or publication dates at this time.

Disclosure: I received an e-book ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review in conjunction with a blog tour. Follow the link to see tour dates and locations. All opinions are my own.

Synopsis: Unable to purge herself of the poison that is slowly killing her, Major Sullyan remains trapped in Andaryon. The only thing that can save her is the Staff, which still lies buried in Taran’s cellar.

Robin Tamsen sets out on a desperate quest to recover the artifact, but the enemy is two steps ahead of him. Sonten knows where the Staff is, and he will stop at nothing to get it back. If he does, Sullyan’s life will be forfeit and no Artesan will be safe.

The race for the Staff has begun.

I am not alone in my praise for this book. Here are a couple other comments from other readers:
“One of the best fantasy books I’ve ever read. The balance between background story and action is just perfect. I’m very glad I found this author. You won’t want to miss this series!” ~Denyse Cohen, author of Witch’s Soulmate, Book 1 of the Living Energy Trilogy

“Splendidly written in a wonderful voice, drew me in immediately. Ms. Peace’s imagination alone gets 5 stars. Spectacular worlds and enchanting scenes. Anyone who enjoys losing themselves in a world of a charming fantasy with plenty of layers and a host of intriguing characters won’t be disappointed!” ~Rosary McQuestion, author of Once Upon Another Time

“As soon as I finished this book I was eager to start the next. I highly recommend this book. Great Job!!” ~Janus Gangi, author of Elizabeth Rose and That Morning After

There you have it! I hope you've enjoyed this post, and feel free to hurry on out and buy your own copy of this excellent book.

Blurb:

When Lyn sets off on her supposedly uncomplicated and unromantic cruise, she never dreams it will include pirates. All the 25-year-old, Colorado high school teacher wants to do is forget that her dead fiancé was a cheating scumbag. Lyn plans a vacation diversion; fate provides Braedon, an intriguing surgeon. She finds herself drawn to him: his gentle humor, his love of music, and even his willingness to let her take him down during morning karate practices. Against the backdrop of the ship's make-believe world and temporary friendships, her emotions come alive.

However, fear is an emotion, too. Unaware of the sensitive waters he's navigating, Braedon moves to take their relationship beyond friendship--on the very anniversary Lyn is on the cruise to forget. Lyn's painful memories are too powerful, and she runs from Braedon and what he has to offer.

Their confusing relationship is bad enough, but when the pair finds themselves on one of the cruise's snorkeling excursions in American Samoa things get worse. Paradise turns to piracy when their party is kidnapped and Lyn's fear of a fairytale turns grim. Now she must fight alongside the man she rejected, first for their freedom and then against storms, sharks, and shipwreck.

Guest Post: Candace Bowen Early: "Renewing Myself"

Good morning my followers (imagine me doing a pseudo-benedictory thing here)! Just a quick note: some of you may have been aware I had a bit of a scare yesterday with my eyes; I'd been having symptoms of retinal detachment and went to see an ophthalmologist yesterday to have it checked out. Good news: my eyes are fine. Bad news: we have no idea why I have a splotch in my visual field of my right eye. I need to see a neurologist. Since I have no insurance and am not independently wealthy, I can't afford to do that, so... no idea what to do.

Anyway, that's just to let you know what's going on. What's important is that I have a guest post today from Candace Bowen Early (I use the name under which her books are published to help you with search efforts)! You might recognize that name, what with my recent review of her novel Wicked Embers or maybe the giveaway I currently have running (and if you haven't signed up to win yet - what are you waiting for?). Candace writes romance novels that I actually like! *gasp* yeah, I know, it's amazing! So, without further ado, here she is!

~RENEWING MYSELF~

I tend to be a nervous person when it comes to certain situations. I suppose most introverts usually are. So long as I am not the center of attention, I generally go about my daily life as if I were a normal person. Yes, you read that correctly. I do not consider myself to be normal by any standards.

The day I began my first novel, A Knight of Silence, was an eye-opener for me. Through writing I had finally found a way to express myself. The feelings I bottled up for years flowed through my fingers onto the page. You can find some of my innermost thoughts and musings within the pages of my novels. However, if I were asked to voice my feelings, I would shut down and withdraw into myself. In the past there has been some debate within my inner circle about whether I am just quirky or flat out eccentric. Since I think of the reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes when I hear the term eccentric, I steadfastly claim the quirky label for myself.

As my writing career began to pick up speed, I felt liberated by having an outlet to express myself. My only regret is that I did not start my writing career years earlier. The satisfaction and joy I feel at seeing one of my books listed for sale is a feeling I hope every aspiring writer feels one day. However, these feelings are often countered by the nervous anticipation I feel wondering how well one of my novels will be received by the reading public. The anxious feelings tend to remain with me until I receive my first unsolicited review. It is only then that I feel free to release the novel from my mind and move to the next story waiting to be written.

Along with my innermost thoughts, my moods are often reflected in my writing. Unfortunately, that is not always a good thing. Immediately prior to my going through an acrimonious divorce, I received a contract for my novel, A Knight of Battle -- The second book in my Knight Series. Although I had previously worked out the plotline to the story in my head, when I sat down to write the novel, I realized I was missing the passion necessary to write a romance.

I knew my first attempt had fallen flat even before it was brutally critiqued by my greatest fan and toughest critic, Mom. Letting go of the vortex of negativity overrunning my life, I managed to recapture my spark for writing, scrapped my first draft, and crafted a true romance. Despite all odds to the contrary, I finished the novel a week ahead of deadline and knew even before my mom gave it the coveted thumbs-up that she would approve.

Regardless of nerves and stress, I had once again created a story that I could proudly put my name on -- my recaptured birth name, Candace C. Bowen.

Book review: "Wicked Embers" by Candace Bowen Early

Wicked Embers review
Author: Candace Bowen Early
4 out of 5 stars

Book Info: Genre: Paranormal Romantic Suspense Reading Level: Adult Book Available: Rhemalda Publishing is releasing this book in both eBook and paperback format on 9/1/2012.

Disclosure: I received a free electronic ARC from Rhemalda Publishing (the author’s publisher) in exchange for an honest review.

Synopsis: It’s been one year since Bronwyn Chase left the modern world behind, and an ancient evil is stirring in Cornwall ….

Bree Peltier is a skeptic. She doesn’t believe in mystics or witches. Between keeping up with her university studies and falling in love with her archaeology professor, her life is complicated enough. When a vengeful spirit possesses her childhood friend and goes on a killing spree, she is forced to re-examine her beliefs. The spirit is out to destroy the descendants of Bronwyn, and Bree is the only one who can stop it. If she believes.

Bree is a mystic. If she doesn’t embrace her birthright, she could lose everyone she has ever loved. If she does embrace it, she could lose her soul mate

My Thoughts: As those who know me already know, I am generally not a fan of romance. However, I read the previous book featuring this character, Spur of the Moment, and really enjoyed it. (Sites that accept formatting should show a link on the title above so you can go see that review.) Be warned: this review will contain some spoilers; I will try to keep them vague, but they are necessary to tell you what I thought about the story.

Like the first book, this one was very good – engaging, entertaining, and not your everyday romance. I think it is technically considered a time-travel romance, since the first one was, but to me it seemed more along the lines of romantic suspense, so that is how I have classified it. It was a very fast read – I went through it in a bit over five hours. It didn’t completely blow my socks off like the first one, but I really did enjoy it. The scene in the nether with Bronwyn and Euric was especially touching – it literally brought tears to my eyes.

There were a few things that bothered me, including the fact that Bree did not warn her friends when they showed up. While I understood that she didn’t want them to think she was insane, to me it seemed really irresponsible for her to not at least come up with a story so that they knew how much danger they were in. I was also bothered by the situation with Finn toward the end – he should have been much more incapacitated by what happened to him, and not able to get around and help as he was doing. The literal deux ex machina at the ending might bother some, but to me it was a relief; otherwise there wouldn’t have been the HEA that romance readers crave.

That said, romance readers should really enjoy this book, and those who enjoyed Ms. Bowen Early’s earlier book will definitely want to read this. Most fans of paranormal suspense should enjoy this as well. While I didn’t love it as much as the first book (thus the rating), I did enjoy it quite a lot. Check it out.
